Pallet Headboard (DIY Project)

Thanks to pinterest.com I have become very excited about some DIY projects. One of them was a pallet headboard that I saw and loved and wanted to make, with of course, the help of my handy husband.

So yesterday we started in on the project. It was much simpler then I expected. You do need some general wood worker tools, like a circular saw. But a regular hand saw would have done the trick.

Here are our starting pallets. Keith managed to get these from work for free!

Using a hammer & crow bar we pulled off all the "middle" pieces, leaving the end pieces together and the large center piece in tact.

Keith then measured our queen sized bed, and cut down one of the pallets so it was suitable as a queen sized headboard and nailed them together.

Then we placed the pieces of wood that we pulled off onto our newly sized pallet so all the pieces had a new home.

We re-nailed them all together and then painted the pallet white.

Then, we painted LOVE in green

Now were done! We rearranged our room a bit in order to accommodate the new headboard. We have 3 white walls and one brown wall, and I wanted this new project on the brown wall. After a bit of re-arranging, we attached this puppy to the wall. We currently have a white down comforter, which my two beautiful and lovely boys have destroyed. It has stains all over it... mostly chocolate stains. Yes, I blame my children for those. In any regards, don't mind the blanket. I am planning to buy a new cover for it... just waiting for the perfect color combo.

My husband in all his brilliance, thought it would look cool to rope lights behind it! Brilliant he is... absolutely brilliant. It gave it such a romantic effect!

You know those stars that I showed you a couple days ago? I am going to buy some specific colored paper (my paper stock is all boy related, and most of it's not two sided, and I want these stars to go perfectly with my color scheme foe the bedroom.) Anyhow- Were going to hang them from the ceiling to accent the headboard. Additionally, were keeping our eyes open for end tables. I am thinking some wooden crates would look nice, or some old cheap end tables that I could paint.

Oh- and I am considering painting our white dresser the same green as my LOVE on the headboard. It's gutsy as the that green is pretty bright, and my dresser is pretty big. But it might look pretty cool. I need someone to convince me. :)
